Attachments: Patch for adding Help menu entry in tools category

Description Dimitrios Glentadakis 2011-08-27 09:39:31 CEST
Description of problem: I think i have deleted the Help menu entry from favorites a long time before and now i would like to launch it from kmenu but i did nt find an entry.

Ofcourse i can find it if i type help in the kmenu search field but i think is normal to have a menu entry

I propose to be in the tools category as is the most possible place that a user will search for it.
If you agree, i upload a patch for it

The help menu is available by default in Favorites & i'm not sure we should patch the desktop to put it in utility especially when you can access it from any kde's applications using the help menu (even if indeed you will launch first the specific application help)

Did you ask upstream what do they think about this eventually ?
Comment 3 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2011-09-01 07:15:51 CEST
The place in favorite is very good, it happened to me to deleted from favorites before a long time, and now i could nt find it in the menu. I think it has a place in a menu entry like other applications because first of all is an application.

I will ask in upstream so we dont have to change things after

hum seems like the problem is in mageia from upstream bugreport
i'll have a better look.
Comment 6 John Balcaen 2011-09-02 20:39:23 CEST
yep of course that's why initially i sent you upstream because we don't have patch regarding it but i should have checked others distro before i guess :/
i'll check fedora's & install a suse too to check it again

Ok the opensuse Help.desktop is at least patched and we can find the help.desktop in
so we have the Categories=Qt;KDE;Core;Documentation;Viewer; inside
I'm currently downloading & i'll install the Fedora to check it also.
If it also patched we'll see.

@ John

The upstream bug report says RESOLVED-DOWNSTREAM

Can you look at it again, please?

Also, please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

(of course UPSTREAM can be removed from the keywords if you agree with the upstream decision)

In fact it's more difficult to narrow it on mageia 1 & i'm wondering if it's not a issue related to desktop-common-data.
Anyway it's fixed by a patch (like it's done in suse) on cauldron since 4.7.4.

In Mageia 2 beta 3 the Help menu exists in Favorites and in Applications â Documentation â Help
