I do really hate pulseaudio, so i just figured out that there is no basic alsamixer gui available for gnome.

I would appreciate to see that fixed!

Sorry for responding so late, we are short on triagers. 

Would it be possible for you to use cairo-dock-alsamixer (well, before you install it: of course you can't use it without using cairo-dock).
I didn't try it in Gnome, but it works well in KDE and lxde.

The alsamixergui package is in Mdv (that makes it more likely it'll get packaged for Mga)
