Description eric gerbier 2019-07-06 12:37:17 CEST
Description of problem:
I just upgrade from mageia 6 to mageia 7 using dnf
and the boot blocks when starting graphical session

the journalctl contains
juil. 06 12:15:21 localhost kernel: [drm] Loading CAICOS Microcode
juil. 06 12:15:21 localhost kernel: radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/CAICOS_pfp.bin failed with err>
juil. 06 12:15:21 localhost kernel: ni_cp: Failed to load firmware "radeon/CAICOS_pfp.bin"
juil. 06 12:15:21 localhost kernel: [drm:evergreen_init [radeon]] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!
juil. 06 12:15:21 localhost kernel: radeon 0000:01:00.0: Fatal error during GPU init

I'm using kernel-desktop-5.1.14-1.mga7-1-1.mga7 (dependency from kernel-desktop-latest)

If I boot on the old mageia 6 kernel ( kernel-desktop-4.14.131-1.mga6-1-1.mga6)
and run drakx11 , it installs the radeon-firmware and uninstall the
mageia 7 kernel :

uil. 06 11:42:20 localhost [RPM][2666]: install radeon-firmware-20190221-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch: success
juil. 06 11:42:20 localhost [RPM][2666]: erase kernel-desktop-latest-5.1.14-1.mga7.x86_64: success
juil. 06 11:42:21 localhost [RPM][2666]: erase virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest-6.0.8-22.mga7.x86_64: success
juil. 06 11:42:38 localhost [RPM][2666]: erase virtualbox-kernel-5.1.14-desktop-1.mga7-6.0.8-22.mga7.x86_64: success

according lspci, I have :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

and dnf do not find a radeon-firmware package in mageia 7

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-5.1.14-1.mga7.src.rpm ?
radeon-firmware-20190221-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot on kernel-desktop-5.1.14-1
2.
3.

I have understood (and fixed) my problem :
I have done my upgrade using the dnf method, but I forgot to change the urpmi.cfg, so it was still pointing to mageia 6 repos, and drakx11 is using urpmi ...

May be you can add in releases notes for dnf users to configure also urpmi
