Erroe occurs while choosing ACPI off or local APCI off from Mageia live USB
The sqaushfs errors indicate the usb drive is bad, or the copy of the iso image to the drive failed. Try copying the iso image to the usb drive again. Be sure to wait until there are no threads showing device wait before rebooting or unplugging the usb drive. CC:

davidwhodgins (In reply to Dave Hodgins from comment #3) > The sqaushfs errors indicate the usb drive is bad, or the copy of the iso > image to the drive failed. > I bought the USB yesterday. I used the same USB for booting debian live and it worked very well. I have checked ISO's md5sum,sha1sum and sha512sum. So, I don't think it was a broken downloaded ISO. > Try copying the iso image to the usb drive again. I copied on usb with 'dd' command 2 times more but it still comes up with this error. I tried with gnome-multiwriter as well. It verified the process too. > Be sure to wait until > there are no threads showing device wait before rebooting or unplugging > the usb drive. When I wrote the debian live iso to USB, I found out that USB mounted automatically after completion of writing. But when I wrote the Mageia live iso to USB, it didn't mount automatically nor does it show up in file manager. Eh ? later I checked with sudo blkid and it shows /dev/sdb1 but i can't see the file type of it. http://i.imgur.com/zjULfhV.png With the 6.1 XFCE i586 live iso, blkid on my system shows ... # blkid /dev/sde* /dev/sde: UUID="2018-10-01-18-55-31-00" LABEL="Mageia-6.1-Xfce-LiveDVD" TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="6e8a645b" PTTYPE="dos" /dev/sde1: UUID="2018-10-01-18-55-31-00" LABEL="Mageia-6.1-Xfce-LiveDVD" TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="6e8a645b" PTTYPE="dos" /dev/sde2: SEC_TYPE="msdos" LABEL="MGALIVE-ESP" UUID="6A56-1AFA" TYPE="vfat" If that's not what your system is showing for "blkid /dev/sdb*", then the copy to the usb drive failed. Either due to the stick failing, or not waiting long enough for the writing to finish. (In reply to Dave Hodgins from comment #5) > With the 6.1 XFCE i586 live iso, blkid on my system shows ... > # blkid /dev/sde* > /dev/sde: UUID="2018-10-01-18-55-31-00" LABEL="Mageia-6.1-Xfce-LiveDVD" > TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="6e8a645b" PTTYPE="dos" > /dev/sde1: UUID="2018-10-01-18-55-31-00" LABEL="Mageia-6.1-Xfce-LiveDVD" > TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="6e8a645b" PTTYPE="dos" > /dev/sde2: SEC_TYPE="msdos" LABEL="MGALIVE-ESP" UUID="6A56-1AFA" TYPE="vfat" > > If that's not what your system is showing for "blkid /dev/sdb*", then the > copy to the usb drive failed. Either due to the stick failing, or not > waiting long enough for the writing to finish. If the USB stick got failed, it couldn't copy other distros onto it. But it is doing that and those distros are booting from it. Here is a screenshot- http://i.imgur.com/qeJaHnZ.png Also, I didn't unplug the USB while writing process. I know that could surely affect writing process. Here is a screenshot of successfully writing of the ISO onto USB- http://i.imgur.com/Vpgq80p.png There is a bug in Mageia 6.1 i586 images. The squashfs problem arises from there. You were trying out Mageia XFCE 6.1 x86-64 probably. Hi Global User, There won't be new Mageia 6 ISOs, but we should soon have Mageia 7 ISOs. Could you please try whether Mageia-7-rc-Live-Xfce-i586.iso gives the same problem? Please do also give details about your hardware. Thanks! CC:

isobuild, marja11 (In reply to Marja Van Waes from comment #7) > Hi Global User, > > There won't be new Mageia 6 ISOs, but we should soon have Mageia 7 ISOs. > > Could you please try whether Mageia-7-rc-Live-Xfce-i586.iso gives the same > problem? > I tried Mageia 7rc xfce i586 today and during first live boot it showed the Mageia spalsh screen. The ball was running over an apple. Just after 30 seconds ball stopped running and capslock's and scroll lock keys' lights were blinking (it same happened while booting live USB of mageia6.1 xfce with safe settings/APCi off or local ACPI off). I rebooted my PC and this time it showed same errors as mentioned first - squashfs error; unable to read block __________ end kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x0000f00. Both keys' lights were blinking too. here is a screenshot of writing the iso successfully onto USB and its blkid -http://i.imgur.com/ci2MHgl.png I noticed one more awkward thing. It made a hidden partition in /dev/sdb after writing the iso - http://i.imgur.com/lzfzbWM.png . When I removed the flag and tried to mount /dev/sdb it shows superblock error. I did fsck /dev/sdb but it didn't work on it. > Please do also give details about your hardware. > hardware details with 'hardinfo'- http://i.imgur.com/81DmEhl.png The USB's I'm using are Sandisk cruzer blade 2.0 USB-16GB and sandisk cruzer blade 2.0 USB 8 GB > Thanks! no problem sir I think doubting the USB sticks is unlikely, even though the problem relates to reading it. CC'ing Thomas in case he has any ideas about this. CC:

Both keys' lights were blinking too. This suggests there is some hardware/driver/kernel problem, but it's odd that it doesn't fail at the same point every time. If you remove "splash quiet" from the boot command line before booting, what are the last messages shown when it does get past the early failure? > I noticed one more awkward thing. I did fsck > /dev/sdb but it didn't work on it. That is expected. The Mageia ISOs are hybrid ISOs. The first part of the disk contains an iso9660 filesystem. The first partition is a protective partition to cover that, but for compatibility with some old buggy BIOSs, it starts at sector 1, whereas the iso9660 partition actually starts at sector 0. 'blkid /dev/sdb' will show that. Your CPU is listed as 64-bit. You could try the 64-bit Live ISO, to see if that works any better. CC:

mageia This message is a reminder that Mageia 6 is end of life. Mageia stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 6. At that time this bug will be closed as OLD (EOL). Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 6's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we cannot be able to fix it before Mageia 6 was end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- Mageia Bugsquad CC:
