Description Markus Robert Keßler 2019-06-17 14:18:29 CEST
Description of problem:

Hddtemp does not include Samsung EVO drives as well as any newer drive.
There seems to be no newer version of the db since 2013 (!).
In the manual people are encouraged to create reports regarding to missing drives and send them to the relevant developers, but emails to hddtemp@guzu.net are refused and emails to aurel32@debian.org will be unanswered.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Connect a newer drive
2. invoke hddtemp
3. see results (drive not in db error)

Can someone please point to a valid email or other means where such info can be submitted to have it added in further updates?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Markus

It seems upstream is rather dead, so there won't be updates (unless someone decides to revive or fork the project), but maybe these instructions work:

https://blog.sleeplessbeastie.eu/2015/10/26/how-to-add-new-device-to-hddtemp-database/

If it works, then please attach your patch to this bug report, so that we can add it when building a new release of hddtemp.

Thanks :-)

Btw, you filed this report against Mageia 7, but still use the Mga 6 package

In Mageia 7 we have:

  hddtemp-0.3-0.beta15.23.mga7

Hi all,

this line works for Samsung EVO / SSD drives:

<hddtemp.db>

    "Samsung SSD 840 Series" 190 C "Samsung SSD 840 Series"

</hddtemp.db>

So I get:

$ hddtemp
/dev/sda: Samsung SSD 840 Series: 33°C

Thanks for adding!

B.t.w., in addition to adding infos like this "standalone" for MGA only, shouldn't we try to do this centralized for all Linux distros?

Added to release 24 in cauldron. As this is a small bug, I'd like not annoying Q/A team with a MGA7 update....

Of course. Feel free to create a centralized git for that.
