Is there a "nokmsboot" on the kernel command line ? If so, remove that and try to boot again CC:

tmb Yes, there was "nokmsboot" and removing it did result in a successful boot. I'm not sure why nokmsboot would be there, as I understand from the errata that Mageia 7 won't be compatible with the AMD propitiatory driver anyway.

marja11 The problem did not reappear after today's kernel upgrade reboot, so maybe the addition of nokmsboot was a one time problem. Confirming that this still happens with the amdgpu driver and the current latest kernel version of "5.4.5-desktop-1.mga8" when I boot into a fresh Cauldron install for the first time. Removing "nokmsboot" from the grub kernel line in /etc/default/grub fixes it as others have reported. CC:
