Description Nicolas Peifer 2019-03-10 15:18:52 CET
Description of problem:
When I choose "Gnome 3 with Xorg" at the login screen and then login then the directories /usr/games and /usr/local/games aren't in the PATH variable.

I could also reproduce this bug on a newly installed Mageia 6 system.

When I use the default Gnome 3 (with Wayland) then the game directories are in the PATH variable.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.24.3-1.mga6.src.rpm
gdm-3.24.3-1.mga6.src.rpm
x11-server-1.19.5-1.2.mga6.src.rpm

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot your system.
2. At the login screen click on the gear wheel icon and select "Gnome 3 with Xorg".
3. Login
4. Open a terminal and enter: echo $PATH

I could not reproduce in my system :
- urpmi task-gnome --no-recommends
- connect another session, choose gnome xorg
- /usr/games is in the path...

Hi Nicolas,

Does that also happen with a newly created user?

@Marja:
Hi Marja, yes, it also happens with a newly created user. But I encountered another strange behaviour: When the user is created and then at the first login choose "Gnome with Xorg" then this does not seem to work as "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" returns "wayland" (and the games dir is in the PATH variable).

But once I've choosen the default Gnome 3 (with Wayland) at the login screen, login, logout and then choose "Gnome with Xorg" then "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" returns "x11" as expected and the games dir is missing in the PATH variable.

@José:
When you chose "Gnome with Xorg" directly at the first login, maybe you ran in the same problem as I did (see above). Could you try this: At first, login to the default Gnome 3 (with Wayland), logout, and then login to "Gnome 3 with Xorg". What do the following commands return then?
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
echo $PATH

By the way: I'm using the Gnome ISO so I never installed task-gnome manually.

This seems the same bug as mga#23768. But sorry I've had no time to debug this.

"Bug 23768 - Gigantic fonts and buttons in KDE and Firefox."

I fail to see how that can be related ;-)

Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan
to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to
a later Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we
weren't able to fix it before Mageia 6's end of life. If you are able to
reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click
on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent
Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them
obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
