Description of problem:

Please provide brlaser printer driver in standard repos. Right now I can install this driver from SUSE repo, but it will make a nice addition to Mageia. It provides support for several Brother printers, tested (OK) on DCP-7055 connected to a print server.

Hi Christian,

I have a Brother DCP-145C inkjet/scanner and an HL5270-DN laser. Brother now provides a generic driver install tool. When you run the tool, you just supply the printer model and it grabs and installs the relevant driver (including scanner - if applicable). It is what I routinely use nowadays.

If you are not already aware of this option, you can check out the (extensive) compatible model list that this tool covers:

Regards,
Antony.

Hi Antony,

I'm well aware of Brother's drivers, I own 4 Brother printers :-). But I see 3 advantages. First, it's free. Second, it works with a TP-Link print server, maybe with others. On top of that it provides that "it just works" experience.Free drivers are always welcome, even if are not full featured.

Assigning this package request to all packagers collectively. On a voluntary basis, one of them might, if there are no license or other legal issues, want to integrate it to the distribution and maintain it for bug and security fixes.

You might also want to join the packager team to maintain this piece of software: see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager

CC'ing our kernel & drivers maintainers, because, this being a request to package a driver, I should maybe have assigned to them :-)
