NEEDINFO For whisker menu, please, report to upstream. The size could be set automatically. Or there could be option to use auto-size. CC:

jani.valimaa 6 for font size is way too small in desktop in some screens. The text is unreadable. So that's not a solution. (In reply to Jani Välimaa from comment #2) > For whisker menu, please, report to upstream. The size could be set > automatically. Or there could be option to use auto-size. Magnus, when you've reported that, then please supply the link here. Jani, assigning this report to you, because going by your comments you consider it to be about valid XFCE issues. Keywords:

Icon text font size 10 make make icon text also unreadable. And for lot of screens it looks like the font size should have been reasonably reduced for the text being readable.
The choice of an intermediate size, 8, will reduce the problem but not completely solve it.
To completely solve this problem of unreadable text of icons of the desktop, or at least not well done look, perhaps the solution should be to have no more icons on the desktop. Except icon of "Removable device" to keep it easily under the user's eyes. All directories iconified on the desktop are more easily accessible by the File Manager in the panel than on the desktop where you have generaly to free it previously.
Xcuz Marja. I forgot to mention attachment "Screenshots asked by Marja"

(none) Disabling ellipsizing is causing more issues with long texts than it fixes, so I'm thinking about reverting the change. See bug 24812 and bug 24812 comment 3. See Also:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24812 Reporting here as this issue is clearly related:
Desktop icon labels have no ellipsizing on default XFCE MGA8 install. Long texts often cover contiguous icons. Also some glitches as this text goes foreground/background if images on mouse cursor hover.
Fortunately this is easy to fix creating a file:
~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
with content:
* {
-XfdesktopIconView-ellipsize-icon-labels: 1;
}
Maybe some patch left around at build?CC:
