also affects mate DE (sddm)
Comment 3 Lewis Smith 2019-02-01 14:58:35 CET
M7 beta 2 x64 Classic end Jan beta2.2, 6 desktops installed.
I have checked start & end times for all desktops. These - especially start times - vary a bit between invocations, tending to be worst at 1st go, then quicker to a norm. Tests were done under LightDM, but I will try Cinnamon & Mate from SDDM.
Times are very approximate.
Login -> populated desktop Logout -> display manager login
Cinnamon 25 5
Gnome 25 6
LXDE 10 5
Mate 10 5
Plasma 25 7
Xfce 12 5
-------------------------------------------
Martin remarked about similar, but worse (up to 90s), problems in the past. We experience[d] them on M6, curiously with the faster desktops. Rarely is it consistent, but if Ben's case *is*, it might be possible to get some log info.

Comment 4 Lewis Smith 2019-02-01 15:23:46 CET
Same as above, trying from SDDM specifically:
- Cinnamon: seemingly faster to leave than with LightDM. What *is* bad is the enormous length of time Login -> desktop.
- Mate: also fast to leave (and to start).

When this happens again, on next boot please run, as root:

   journalctl -b-1 > log.txt

and attach log.txt to this bug report.

I think that I've seen this before and I think it's due to a cron job that's in progress.

I fail to see the issue in the log, maybe logging had already stopped when it happened.
Do you see any possibly related messages when you press "Esc" as soon as you see the "shutdown plymouth"?

Setting this report to UNCONFIRMED for now, because Lewis doesn't have the issue.

Ben
Is this till true? Do you want to leave this open? It was 7beta2.

Nothing visible betwenn 50.00 and 50.31, after which things happen fast.

To be honest, I would say that if Cinnamon takes a long time to close, it takes a long time to close. And it is not a universal problem; I do not think you use it.
Comment 12 Ben McMonagle 2020-01-31 21:30:24 CET
I use it randomly - just in the last week.
I had to wait for it to close down.
other desktops do not do this on the same mixed DE system

Can you say [perhaps again] what display manager you use?
