Description of problem:

I just updated from mga6 to mga7 (beta 1).

Now if I use old good xorg.conf with sisimedia module and msr module preloaded the system frozen (or keyboard frozen). Only long press in power boot, start recover in grub and change driver to vesa workaround the bug.

Hi, José Eduardo,

Though I'm just a user, I also have a notebook with that chipset (SiS 771/671).

There might be some additional info in bug 19849 (and perhaps in bug 19620). Please see whether there is something that could help you. Also, pardon my bad use of English, because it's not my native language.

In summary, Mageia (and all distros) pull drivers from some hero maintainer -- sometimes working unpaid for years. Even so, people move on in life and drivers become unmaintained -- which in these times we live is a bit dangerous from a security point-of-view. Sometimes we get lucky and some Computer Science student revises the driver...

In my case, I decided to use the VESA driver -- in spite of some loss of image quality -- because performance is still good and the notebook can be useful for most desktop tasks.

Also, I'm curious... what led you into thinking that msr has something to do with your system freezing?

Hello, Renato,

Thank you for yours comments. 

In fact, preloading msr module let me to use sisimedia and increase display resolution if I use Mageia 6.1 in my old laptop. Have You tried?

To report this as a bug I follow Martin Whitaker's suggestion in your bug report 19927.
