Install log from a Vbox Plasma install

Description Thomas Andrews 2018-12-30 15:54:30 CET
Description of problem:

When installing from the Live MGA7 Beta1 isos, the installer fails to create the /media directory. This happens both on real hardware and in VirtualBox. I've seen it with the 64-bit Plasma and Xfce isos. As far as I know the same installer is used on the other two isos, so they are probably affected as well.

This was first discovered when attempting to share folders between a Mageia 6 VirtualBox host and Mageia 7 guests. VirtualBox automounts shared folders in the guest's /media directory. Because there was no /media, the shared folders aren't mounted.

I'm torn about whether to classify this as "Major" or "Critical." Deciding to call it "critical, as I know that /media is typically used for things other than sharing folders, even if I don't know what they are.

Today I created a M7 x86_64 Plasma Vbox Client install using netinstall. All went well except there is a problem with the keyboard. The install did create a /media directory. I include an NFS mount in all my test Vbox Client and that went well with the mount location inside the user space /home/wilcal/sherman.

At this point I have totally discounted the present isos, all of them. Until:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24070

gets resolved any further testing, IMO, is just for fun.

If I was to classify your bug I would make it "Critical" and Priority "Release Blocker".

I would agree, except for the "fun" part. And for the most part, I wouldn't create any new bugs based on those isos. But this issue is different. It's not likely to be resolved in the next round unless brought up ASAP. It's probably too late to resolve it for round 1 of the beta2's anyway. But maybe not before the beta2 release.

Done.

Priority: High => release_blocker

Assigning to the isobuilders and CC'ing Martin.

@ TJ

Could you please run, as root:

  journalctl -b1 > install.log

and attach install.log to this report?

Oh, and does the /media directory exist when you run the iso in live mode?
If not: what happens when you insert a USB-key?

Install log from real hardware

Here is the install log from a real hardware install. Take note that this install was done from Live mode, booted with free video drivers. With this hardware, that means the nouveau driver on a Geforce 9800 GT card.

If I can manage it, the install log from a vbox install will follow.

Running the Plasma iso, on usb.

Using the following commands in Konsole:

cd /
dir

/media DOES exist.
