I am using an HP Photsmart printer with USB connection. This started about 2 weeks ago.
Comment 2 Gary Montalbine 2011-08-14 17:57:28 CEST
Work around: Remove the USB cable before turning the printer off.

do you have some log ? (/var/log/messages or dmesg)

Component: Release (media, process) => RPM Packages

This is all I have from my syslog in MCC.

Aug 14 15:22:41 localhost udev-configure-printer: PrinterEnabled()
Aug 14 15:24:29 localhost kernel: imklog 5.6.2, log source = /proc/kmsg started.

The rest continues the start up. I have noticed that I can turn the printer off when I have no programs running. Also gkrellem, LibraOffice can be running with no shutdown. It will shut down when thunderbird and firefox are running.

Do the above extract from syslog correspond to the moment when you turn the printer off? If not, it would be interesting to see what the kernel says when you do it.

I believe so. There was nothing else between these 2 lines. I am unable to use mageia because of a color problem mentioned in another bug report.

I just tested my printer. Apparently the problem is fixed. Turning off my printer did not cause a reboot. I tried it twice.
