Description Laurent PERROTON 2018-08-25 15:58:55 CEST
Description of problem:

The command

notify-send TestTitle TestText

hangs and does not display any notification dialog box, as it should.

wmudmount, The utility to notify user and mount USB keys, hangs at each
event trying to display a notification box with following error msg:

(wmudmount:5857): libnotify-WARNING **: Failed to connect to proxy

Workaround:

Although I could not find the origin of the bug, I fixed the problem
by launching manually a notification daemon (from mate). I added the
following lines to my ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart :

# If notification daemon, is not started, do it
[ -z "$(pidof mate-notification-daemon)" ] && (/usr/libexec/mate-notification-daemon &)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Mageia 6 + most recent RPM updates at the date of testing

uname -a :
Linux mymachine 4.14.65-desktop-1.mga6 #1 SMP Sat Aug 18 14:50:29 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64

rpm -q -a | grep windowmaker :
task-windowmaker-1-7.mga6
windowmaker-theme-mageia-0.2-9.mga6
default-windowmaker-desktop-0.95.8-1.mga6
mageia-windowmaker-desktop-0.95.8-1.mga6
windowmaker-0.95.8-1.mga6

How reproducible: 100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. login with windowmaker
2. open a terminal
3. issue the command "notify-send TestTitle TestText" in a terminal, it does not display any notification and hangs.

@ Chris

I'm not sure you're the right person to assign this report to, but you're the registered maintainer of windowmaker and you'll surely do the right thing with this report :-)

Yes, I'll have a look if there is really a problem or if this is a feature.

These small window managers are targeted to be light, a minimal amount of services and daemon is automatically started. That indeed requires users to set-up specific configurations.

Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan
to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to
a later Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we
weren't able to fix it before Mageia 6's end of life. If you are able to
reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click
on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent
Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them
obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
