The preferred way to set up a printer is with system-config-printer[1]. The cups web interface should also often work but AFAIK it can't install packages. The only driver that is included in mageia and should work with your printer is 'hpcups', shown in system-config-printer as "HP Color LaserJet 1600 Foomatic/foo2hp (recommended)". Did you select this driver in cups? [1] system-config-printer is available in the mageia menu through Applications -> Tools -> System Tools -> Printing CC:
