Description of problem:

For mageia i586 systems dnf resolve $basearch as i386
I think it should be i586

Base architecture refers to the "base ISA architecture", which is i386. If you're referring to the "real" architecture, that would be $arch (which resolves to i586 or i686 depending on what the kernel says).
