Description Kristoffer Grundström 2018-05-07 01:12:13 CEST
Description of problem: I just installed Mageia 6 using the netinstall iso and made sure that I'm fully up-to-date. As I logged into MATE and tried connecting to WiFi it failed.

LSHW shows:

           *-network
                description: Wireless interface
                product: QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter
                vendor: Qualcomm Atheros
                physical id: 0
                bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0
                logical name: wlp1s0
                version: 01
                serial: b0:10:41:0a:fb:91
                width: 64 bits
                clock: 33MHz
                capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical wireless
                configuration: broadcast=yes driver=ath9k driverversion=4.14.30-desktop-3.mga6 firmware=N/A latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11

I deleted the wlp1s0 interface and recreated it, but got the same result when trying to connect.

I got the same result when unchecking the box to NOT let Network Manager control the interface.

Adding the output of trying to connect to WiFi as an attachment.

How reproducible: Everytime I reboot and login to any Desktop Environment.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find an Aspire E5-721.
2. Boot the netinstall iso.
3. Install MATE, Cinnamon, GNOME.
4. In the summary, try to setup the WiFi connection.
5. The network connection is seen, but it fails to connect.
6. Login to any of the installed Desktop Environments.
7. Try to setup the WiFi again and it will fail to connect.

If anyone wonders if this laptops BIOS is updated I have to say NO. I've been told to never perform a BIOS update as that can brick my entire board if done wrong.

Acer has released two updates for the BIOS since this laptop was released.

Not that I think that the problem lies within the BIOS, but I just wanted to mention this.

Note that this problem does NOT exist in Ubuntu on any of their versions.

I see reoccuring output in dmesg regarding this issue:

[  167.814326] fuse init (API version 7.26)

[  241.135398] wlp1s0: deauthenticated from 6c:b0:ce:9d:ea:02 (Reason: 15=4WAY_HANDSHAKE_TIMEOUT)

As I know that this card works perfectly fine in Ubuntu I'd like to say that it's the driver or the kernel module.

What more info do you need?

or wpa_supplicant

Did you check whether

  /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

contains the correct values for your network?

For me, it looks like this:

  network={
      bssid=<MAC address of our access point>
      ssid="<name of our access point>"
      psk="<password of our access point>"
      scan_ssid=0
      priority=1
  }

My wpa_supplicant.conf

The wpa_suppicant.conf output from your machine seems to differ from mine a bit.

I rebuilt the kernel 4.14.38-desktop and wpa_supplicant-2.6 from Cauldron and still I get the same result.

However as I tried to recreate the wireless connection through drakconf I saw this:

Selected interface 'wlp1s0'
OK
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
    SET failed on device wlp1s0 ; Invalid argument.
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant

I'll close this as RESOLVED FIXED as one or two updates fixed the issue with connecting.
