I should have tried another mirror, but this problem has persisted for about a week now on findrpm mirror.

Results of debug X11 nVidia driver
The problem seems to be lib64zlib1-1.2.11-4.1.mga6.x86_64 v. lib64zlib1-1.2.11-4.mga6.x86_64.
Ah, indeed... seems the bugfix MGAA-2017-0125 in mga6 was newver pushed to cauldron, so the upgrade path broke... and by cauldron install was before that, so I never hit it :/ Anyway, a zlib-1.2.11-5.mga7 is on the way to the mirrors and should resolve this... Thanks for the quick reply -- and glad to hear that an update in on its way. lib64zlib1-1.2.11-5.mga7.x86_64 installed along with proprietary driver and bbswitch and the display is back to normal so bug can be closed. Thank you! You could have closed it as you opened it :) Closing now Resolution:
