Description aguador 2017-10-27 12:42:49 CEST
Attempting to launch Tomboy Notes after the the update in Mono results in a crash. See attached file.

Perhaps related to Issue 51 here: https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy/issues/51#issuecomment-315600334 However, from what I can see, tomboy was built against the later dbus-sharp packages mentioned.

There is, however, a later release, 1.15.8 which may or may not fix the problem.

Assigning to all packagers collectively, since there is no registered maintainer for this package.

Setting status to NEW, because from now on bugs reported by users without special privileges will have the status NEW again, like until recently.

As I look at the terminal output again, this appears to be an issue with mono. However, I did go ahead build tomboy 1.15.9 against the updated mono. However, the program crashes with the same unhandled exception.

I am not sure what else to do here, if there are additional things I can test, I will be happy to do so.

(For any packager who is interested, I can send along my Tomboy SRPM for review. It should be OK, but in any event may save you a couple of steps.)

I just reinstalled Tomboy from the Cauldron repositories and it still crashes. This should be fixed, if possible.

Perhaps the fpc/Lazarus produced Tomboy_ng which under development will be ready for Mageia 8 and this mono-dependent package can simply be dropped.

This program, last updated 2 years ago, is no longer actively developed:

https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy/blob/master/README.md

It is still hanging around in Mageia, and still broken. Why not drop it? At that point this bug report can be closed.

tomboy-ng is noted as the active alternative. Although it has still not reached 1.0 (current release is 0.23), I have been using it for nearly a year (in both stable and Cauldron) with no problems. Even the SNI/Appindicator is fully functional. If not deemed appropriate to be added to Mga7, it would be a good addition to Cauldron.

(Note that the developer has even tested the application in four Mageia desktops: https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/System-Requirements -- all we need now is a packager :-))

Would a dev simply drop Tomboy notes, please?

This report is three years old, there is no maintainer, and the package is no longer supported, so it is just taking up space. (I will leave this open until Tomboy is dropped.)

Having tomboy-ng would be really, really nice as it is fully Tomboy compatible and the interface works a bit better than gnote. Nonetheless, given limited packaging resources I understand it may be impossible.

Tomboy no longer appears in the repositories. Closing.
