herbert $ mate-panel --reset doesn't help either. Assigning to the mate-panel maintainer. CC:

marja11 Thank you reporting. I have updated mate-panel package to 1.18.7 bugfix version. It fixes several issues including hopefully this one and brings updated translations. Advisory: ======================== Updated mate-panel packages fix following bugs and updated translations: * Analogue clock in time applet stretched when hovering over set button (upstream#520) * Calendar: Edit button appears when Location is collapsed (upstream#570) * Menu: Panel segfaults when some .desktop file has empty Icon field (upstream#494) (mga#21798) * Menubar/menu-button: can't launch mozo when menulibre isn't installed (upstream#586) * Menu: panel main menu don't close properly (upstream#305) * Window list, tray rendered incompletely until restart after moving to another panel (upstream#504) * Clock: Hovering over timezone text, causes panel to scale beyond screen limit (upstream#594) * Panel can't load launchers for files/folders (upstream#590) * Status-notifier: Telegram's systray icon became a seemingly invisible 1x1 icon in the systray (upstream#695) References: ======================== https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/520 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/570 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/494 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21798 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/586 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/305 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/504 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/594 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/590 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/695 https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/compare/v1.18.2...v1.18.7 Updated packages in core/updates_testing: ======================== mate-panel-1.18.7-1.mga6 libmate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.7-1.mga6 libmate-panel-applet-devel-1.18.7-1.mga6 libmate-panel-applet-gir4.0-1.18.7-1.mga6 lib64mate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.7-1.mga6 lib64mate-panel-applet-devel-1.18.7-1.mga6 lib64mate-panel-applet-gir4.0-1.18.7-1.mga6 SRPMS: ======================== mate-panel-1.18.7-1.mga6.src.rpm Assignee:

qa-bugs Testing M6/64 BEFORE the update: lib64mate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.2-2.mga6 mate-panel-1.18.2-2.mga6 I use Mate routinely I have Firefox 52 as predicted, so cannot see the original fault: "Since I installed Firefox 56.0 (Mageia is still at 52.0 with no threading), mate-panel segfaults on startup ..." So I am trying some of the other bugs noted in comment 4. * Analogue clock in time applet stretched when hovering over set button * Clock: Hovering over timezone text, causes panel to scale beyond screen limit The normal panel clock is digital. I cannot find an analogue one in the 'Add to panel' applets list (where the clock icon is analogue!). Hovering over the digital clock does not stretch the panel, but with the clock on the extreme right, the pop-up caption is off-screen. * Calendar: Edit button appears when Location is collapsed Clicking the panel clock item pops up the calendar, at the bottom of which is 'Location' collapsed, and the Edit button on the right. Opening Location pops up a world day/night map, leaving the Edit button. Collapsing Location disappears both map and Edit button; which re-appears if Location is opened again. * Menu: Panel segfaults when some .desktop file has empty Icon field I tried editing (after saving the original) a Desktop/*.desktop file to remove its icon reference - and lost the whole graphical interface while still in the editor. Nasty, and I am not trying that again. * Menu: panel main menu don't close properly I see no problem. * Window list, tray rendered incompletely until restart after moving to another panel * Panel can't load launchers for files/folders Cannot find how to do these things. Never mind. CC:

lewyssmith M6/64 AFTER the update: lib64mate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.7-1.mga6 mate-panel-1.18.7-1.mga6 * Panel digital clock on extreme right: Hover pop_up still goes off-screen. Insignificant. * Calendar: Edit button appears when Location is collapsed This *is* fixed. Clicking the date applet shows the calendar with Locality collapsed and *no* Edit button. Opening Locality shows the world day/night map + the Edit button, which both disappear when Locality is collapsed. All I could see. For me the update is OK, but whether it answers the original Firefox-related complaint remains to see. It should not be OK'd until then. @Herbert: Please can you try this update? It is in 'Core Updates Testing'. @Atilla: re the Advisory. * There is no need to include the bug URL in References; it is automatically added by the system. * You had flagged 'Advisory' in Keywords; not right. This is done when the Advisory is actually created and uploaded into SVN, normally done by QA; not just when it is added to the bug. It was not in SVN, I did it, normal. * We need to test the Firefox 56 crash thing. If that is resolved, the Advisory will need updating to include it. QA will do that. @ Herbert In the mean time Firefox 57 is out. I will have a go at that one. CC:

herman.viaene @ Herbert Did you run Firefox from your home directory or did you replace the current 52 version completely. If so, a little guidance would be appreciated. 57 runs OK from home. I'm using Firefox 57.0.4 as well (Thanks to Spectre/Meltdown :) and it seemed related to the notification area, which I disabled since I hit the problem with 52.0. I've recently updated the system but I'm still seeing the following versions: - mate-panel-1.18.4-1.mga6 - lib64mate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.4-1.mga6 I'll see if I can install the ones from testing and try to re-enable the notification area. Thanks, Herbert MGA6-32 on Dell Latitude D600 MATE No installation issues. First replaced Firefox 52 by 57. No issues seen before or after the mate-panel update. Good enough for me. Whiteboard:

MGA6-32-OK (In reply to Herbert Poetzl from comment #9) > I'm using Firefox 57.0.4 as well and it > seemed related to the notification area, which I disabled since I hit the > problem with 52.0. Your original report was for version 56. Or did you have another problem with v52 related to the notification area? > I've recently updated the system but I'm still seeing the following versions: > - mate-panel-1.18.4-1.mga6 > - lib64mate-panel-applet4_1-1.18.4-1.mga6 Because this update has not been released yet; you need to try version 1.18.7-1.mga6 from "core updates testing". If you need help accessing this repository, please ask. But urpmi --searchmedia "..." etc etc normally works. > I'll see if I can install the ones from testing and try to re-enable the > notification area. Thank you. If you use FF57 for trying the update re the mate-panel crash, please see that the crash still occurs *before* applying the update - with the 1.18.4-1.mga6 packages you currently have. If the crash still happens, you can try the mate-panel update. If it does not happen - can you revert to FF56 to re-produce it again? Sorry to ask you, but if we cannot re-produce your problem we cannot ensure that the update resolves it (even if it fixes other bugs). TIA The problem is still there with the current version and it seems to be fixed with the version from testing. Best, Herbert Status:
