Description Rémi Verschelde 2017-08-08 12:54:40 CEST
Since a few months there is a new upstream continuation of trackballs (previous one was abandoned since 2007), with several new releases (latest is 1.2.3 at the time of this writing).

It would be good to package the new version for Cauldron, and maybe as an update to Mageia 6 if compatible with the old version.

I am not sure it is good idea : it requires OpenGL 3.3 hardware, while abandoned one works in every hardware...

I dislike this regressions, we already had Widelands that suddenly required OpenGL 2, I wonder if developpers realize that not every user has recent computers...

Maybe in some years, when everyone will have such hardware.

Fair enough. It would be nice to mention this in the upstream bug tracker - it sounds overkill to require OpenGL 3.3 for the kind of graphics used in Trackballs. If the new upstream wants to use funky OpenGL effects, they should be opt-in and the game should still support running on earlier OpenGL versions with those effects disabled.
