Desktop spanning two monitors without duplication of desktop icons

Description Hoyt Duff 2017-07-13 23:16:41 CEST
Description of problem:
 I'm using the current-as-of-today Mageia6 4.9.35-desktop-1.mga6 x86_64.
Dual display, nvidia driver, LXDE desktop

At various reboots, my desktop, which spans both displays using TwinView, will show duplicate desktop icons in both displays. The task bar will also span both displays or be limited to the left display

Deleting an icon in one display will delete it in the other display, adding an icon adds it to both displays, but moving an icon on one display does not move it on the other display until a re-boot.

How reproducible:
Varies seemingly at will with no action taken on my part at every re-boot.

I just found this. RedHat considers it a "feature", not a bug. OK, then why does it vary over reboots, sometime exhibiting the behaviour I want?

Was that here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=867378 ?

That's a report from almost 5 years ago, things may have changed since them.

Desktop spanning two monitors without duplication of desktop icons

Somehow, after a cron-initiated update sometime within the last 24 hours, there is no longer a duplication of desktop icons.
Comment 6 Hoyt Duff 2017-07-24 07:35:28 CEST
And after logging out and logging back in, they're back.
Comment 7 Rémi Verschelde 2017-07-24 15:01:30 CEST
Might not be related as it's on different DEs, but linking bug 21303 nevertheless just in case.

It changes back and forth after logging out and logging in. This behavior seems insane.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 6 is end of life.

Mageia stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 6. At that time this bug will be closed as OLD (EOL).

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 6's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we cannot
be able to fix it before Mageia 6 was end of life.
If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

I have changed hardware and no longer experience this issue with Mageia7 .

Updated details here along with example xorg.conf: https://maximumhoyt.blogspot.com/2017/09/nvidia-triple-head-display_2.html
