Mozilla has released Thunderbird 52.2.1 today (June 23):

It fixes serious bugs with Gmail.

We should probably update it at least for Cauldron.

Committed and requested a freeze push for version 52.2.1. This update also includes an enigmail update to version 1.9.7 which fixes a bug specific to Thunderbird 52.

x86_64 Mate  on real hardware.

Updated Thunderbird. en_GB
Incoming messages OK, saving to local folders, Calendar OK, setting reminders looks fine.
Address book complete.
Sent a message to myself, automatically encrypted.  Received OK and could be decrypted using the passphrase.

OK for 64-bits.

In this Debian advisory, enigmail was updated to 1.9.8.1 for full compatibility with 52:
