lebarhon After a little bit of investigation, I find that the translations are present in the .po files, but they are marked as "fuzzy". Reading the documentation for 'msgfmt' (the command that is used to convert the .po files into a binary format), it has the option: ‘--use-fuzzy’ Use fuzzy entries in output. Note that using this option is usually wrong, because fuzzy messages are exactly those which have not been validated by a human translator. The .spec file for the Mageia system-config-printer package doesn't pass --use-fuzzy to msgfmt, so the fuzzy translations are being dropped. So this could be fixed either by going through the .po files and validating the translations, or by using the --use-fuzzy option (and waiting for people to complain about any bad translations...) i18n-bugs Just some historical perspective from Fedora (upstream) PoV. Once upon a time, Fedora translations (and scp as a part of them) were on Transifex. Those times Transifex can commit translations into the repo just as they arrived there. Then the git pushing from Transifex has been switched off and the licensing of Transifex itself has been changed which leads Fedora to switch to Zanata translation service. Zanata has slow and monstrous command line interface to obtain and push translations (~140 MB with full blown Java inside). Developers (and some translators) hate it: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/trans@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/BYQULYXRNBHBNZ2RZYFRYNZSR42QA2PG/ And now, what we have: 1. Developers had decided to alleviate users lives and added accelerators to the old well-translated strings (note the added "_"). 2. Formally, translations on Zanata: https://fedora.zanata.org/iteration/view/system-config-printer/master/documents?docId=system-config-printer&dswid=5888 As you can see, the above-mentioned strings are translated and ready to use. We, Fedora translators, have our job done. 3. Developers ignore the translations for some unknown reason (or the reasons explained earlier): https://github.com/zdohnal/system-config-printer/blob/master/po/fr.po#L2388 So it's an upstream/Fedora bug. There is anything we can do from Mageia side. I can write a note into trans@, but it is too late to improve our (Mageia) release. CC:

yurchor When I assigned this bug report to i18n, I thought that we could use http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/i18n/system-config-printer/tree/po/ to add our own translations where upstream ones are missing. However, now I don't understand why we still have those po files there: none of the Catalan strings that were added in 2015 and 2016 did ever end up in SVN/system-config-printer/SOURCES/po-mga.tar.bz2 and it's probably not better for other updated languages However, the spec file still contains Source3: po-mga.tar.bz2 I'm confused :-( CC'ing the system-config-printer maintainer Also CC'ing Akien, in case he doesn't receive i18n-bugs mails CC:

Gzipped patch against the translations in system-config-printer-1.5.9.tar.gz
Pulled with zanata-cli current translations from Fedora's Zanata instance.
One of Fedora translation coordinators told that the translation inclusion for s-c-p 1.5.10 release is controlled: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/trans@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/T6FB3FY6LORBURNDIKNR36PZJI7DZVJK/ (In reply to Yuri Chornoivan from comment #7) > One of Fedora translation coordinators told that the translation inclusion > for s-c-p 1.5.10 release is controlled: > > https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/trans@lists.fedoraproject.org/ > thread/T6FB3FY6LORBURNDIKNR36PZJI7DZVJK/ He also says that translations had been synced for 1.5.9, which we ship. So were they incomplete then? Or is something wrong in the way they sync? The French translation example you gave is in the master branch and was theoretically synced in March 2017 - was the "_Apply" string untranslated then? The > French translation example you gave is in the master branch and was > theoretically synced in March 2017 - was the "_Apply" string untranslated > then? I can only access data for Ukrainian translation (you need someone from French team for this). The data for Ukrainian: Translated on Zanata 24/10/16 16:58 (7 months ago) Isn't in repo by now: https://github.com/zdohnal/system-config-printer/blob/master/po/uk.po#L2340 It seems they last updated the Ukrainian translation on GitHub on 21 Oct 2016: https://github.com/zdohnal/system-config-printer/commit/5e6ed476a753f14b7a25c3dff218465aa43c06f9 So a couple days before the 1.5.8 release on 24 Oct 2016. Then fuzzied strigns were then fixed on day 1 post release, but the translations were not synced for 1.5.9. Make sure they sync *all* languages before 1.5.10. |
True at least for Dutch and Swedish Steps to Reproduce: 1. # system-config-printer 2. Select to add new printer 3. In that dialogue there are buttons at bottom. For Swedish system they are labeled: [Avbryt] [Forward] Note: the left is right and the right is left to translate (Sorry cant help myself from joking on the funny words right and left.) For Dutch system language the same button miss translation. 4. Back in top dialogue, right click an installed printer, choose settings. 6. In that dialogue there are buttons at bottom. For Swedish system they are labeled: [Apply] [Avbryt] [OK] The leftmost button is not translated at least in Swedish and Dutch. Other small isues, at least in in Swedish: In the settings dialog at left select Printer alternatives "Skrivaralternativ" (correct) and the pane at right miss translations for the two top items: "Media Size:" and "Resolution" and the bottom one "2-Sided Printing:" All alternatives in drop done lists are english, but i guess may be intentional? (Also: the header in that pane is misspelled "Allmäns" instead of "Allmänt")
