mageiatools This bug still applies in latest Cauldron Well you do find Germany eventually, I never see England in any of these country lists. After looking for England, then Great Britain, I scroll almost to the bottom and sometimes find United Kingdom, unless it's been moved to the very top below USA for "convenience" - sigh! :) As you say - not a show stopper but annoying all the same. zen25000 Issue still exists in Mageia 8 Beta 1 Still exists Mageia 9 Beta 2 install Why should German be at the top of the list? Who decides which language is "important" and which is "subordinate"? What's the problem with doing 2 mouse clicks every few years (when reinstalling the system)? This is clearly not a bug and the discussion about which language is "up" or "down" shouldn't even be started. Closing. Resolution:

WONTFIX Wasn't asking for it to be at the top of the list - bur all other distros have commonly used languages / countries in their primary lists - like France, Spain & Germany. Newbies might be confused when installing - that's all. I'll go back to my cave now . . . . We should definitely try to improve this, the list is sorted by continent so first is Americas and all of Europe needs to scroll. Selecting English on the first screen gives English from USA, English from England being further down in Europe. Having most common countries would be a solution, or having some default selection based on "something" could also help. There was another bug suggesting to pick the default language based on some BIOS information for example (I am not sure it is often set). CC:

pterjan I suggest we look at other distros like LinuxMint or Ubuntu - how their installers handle this topic - Mageia was always the odd man out in this department (kinda like the sudo out-of-the-box topic as well) |
