Description Nikita Krupenko 2017-04-05 12:44:21 CEST
Description of problem:
I installed MGA6 sta2 Plasma 5 LiveDVD into VirtualBox in EFI mode. I created 300 MiB partition for /boot/ESP and ~30 GiB for btrfs root partition.
System installed with kernel 4.9.13 and works fine, but when I update kernel to 4.9.20, boot fails with the following error:

Failed to access perfctr msr (MSR c0010007 is 0)

May be this message is unrelated, but it fails to boot.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-desktop-4.9.20-1.mga6
virtualbox-5.1.18-6.mga6

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install MGA6 sta2 into VirtualBox VM with EFI boot.
2. Update the kernel.
3. Reboot.

May be something updated, but I cannot reproduce it now.

Hi - I ran into this on physical hardware

/boot - 500 mb ext3
/ - 50 GB btrfs
/home - the rest of the drive

I booted in debug mode and it looped for a long time trying to find all btrfs files systems and then went to root prompt.

I just rebuilt with

/ - 50 GB ext3
/ - rest btrfs

no issues in build.

Kernel has changed a lot in the four years since this bug was reported and then confirmed on real hw.

Closing as OLD
