marja11 Did you change used mixer app from the preferences like the warning suggested? I can patch pnmixer to require and to use pavucontrol by default. And BTW, xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin is installed instead of pnmixer in upcoming mga6. Ended up to a bit different solution. Added Recommends: for pavucontrol and added it to mixer apps to search if no 'Volume Control Command' is defined in preferences. Status:

RESOLVED Had a mid-air collision with my reply - here it is for completeness sake: > Did you change used mixer app ... No - I tried but did not manage (the instructions are unclear as to the choice of options to type into the preferences text-entry of pnmixer). > ... xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin is installed instead of pnmixer. I did not realize - I still had pnmixer installed and included in the script that configures my panel. I now tried pulseaudio-plugin now: works well (but, since it does not go into the notifier applet, is not a 100% replacement). I guess due to the change from pnmixer to xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin this bug can be closed (assuming that pnmixer is not included any more into the packages loaded by task-xfce-xxx). It might be good to mention this change in the release notes. Or could pnmixer be fixed and offered as an alternative which goes into the notifier applet? ... which corresponds to what you did in the solution (comment 4) - thanks! |
Description of problem: Pnmixer correctly displays an icon in the notifier. The volumn slider of that icon works as it should, but the "Mixer" button fails to launch the pnm mixer window - when this button is hit, a popup warning appears: "No mixer application was found on your system. Please open preferences and set the command you want to run for volumn control" (fully updated cauldron with xfce) If pnmixer is launched from a command-line, immediately after launch (before hitting any gui controls) a warning is displayed: "alsa.c: 'default': Can't get playback dB range: Invalid argument" Workaround: also install alsamixergui or gnome-alsamixer (pnmixer will find this utilitity when the "Mixer" button is hit" Comment: using xfce with the latest updates from the copr repo, the problem persists, but has a different aspect: the popup message then is "Unable to run command: Text wase mpty (or contained only whitespace)" plus, the work-around does not work any more (no other mixers detected even if they are installed. Filing this as a bug on pnmixer, but the bug might be xfce-specific. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Fully updated cauldron with default xfce and Notifier applet installed by "Add new items" (or simply launch pnmixer from a command line) 2. Sound-icon -> "Mixer" button 3.
