(Did you forget to install audacious-plugins?)
Aborted (core dumped)

1. Add Music to Music
2. Click on Audacious and wait

Comment 1 Brian Rockwell 2017-01-20 00:31:11 CET
FYI - this was an installation from Mageia6-sta2-x86_64-dvd (approximation on name). All patches were applied up to this typing.

I installed xfce desktop using Mageia-6-sta1-x86_64-DVD.iso into a vm. Applied all updates and installed Audacious.

rpm -qa | grep audac
audacious-plugins-3.8.1-1.mga6.tainted
audacious-3.8.1-1.mga6
audacious-pulse-3.8.1-1.mga6.tainted

Works as expected. Did you use tainted or non-free sources?

The output you pasted in Comment 0 says:
"Did you forget to install audacious-plugins?"

So it sounds pretty clear what the problem is.

The audacious package recommends audacious-plugins, so it should be installed, but is possible that it is not. I suppose one way that this could happen is that the audacious package is on the ISO you installed from and the audacious-plugins package is not. If that's the case, please CC Anne for the Classical ISO or Martin for the Live ISO, whichever you used.

Götz, is there any reason we shouldn't change the Recommends to a Requires?
Comment 4 Brian Rockwell 2017-01-20 12:41:43 CET
This came pre-packaged in the Mageia-6-sta2-x86_64-DVD.iso and was on the menu from the initial installation.

Looks like a package was missed.

Comment 5 Brian Rockwell 2017-01-20 12:43:04 CET
fyi - I installed the package and Audacious worked fine after that.
Comment 6 David Walser 2017-01-20 12:43:55 CET
Anne, please add audacious-plugins to the list of packages that should be included on the Classical ISO.

Given that error, it's a packaging bug and the audacious package should require audacious-plugins (or at least the required plugins if some are optional). Obviously the audacious package by itself does not work, so a Recommends is not enough.

Then the ISO building will pick the dependency automatically, so need to modify ISO building scripts for that.

Maybe this was simply changed by accident:
http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/audacious/current/SPECS/audacious.spec?r1=1004909&r2=1071449
Comment 9 Rémi Verschelde 2017-01-20 13:12:59 CET
Indeed, this should be reverted and maybe an explanatory comment added that those plugins are actually mandatory :)

yes, that's my mistake, forgot to debootstrap the thing :-/
Comment 11 Jani Välimaa 2017-01-20 20:00:59 CET
Shouldn't we require audacious-pulse instead of audacious-plugins[*] as we use Pulseaudio by default.

[*] audacious-plugins provides the following output plugins: alsa, filewriter, oss4 ans sdlout.

Actually I tried with audacious-pulse with no luck.

$ audacious
ERROR plugin-init.cc:147 [start_required]: No interface plugin found.
(Did you forget to install audacious-plugins?)

So I guess we need to require audacious-plugins as error msg just changed from output plugin to interface plugin with audacious-pulse.
Comment 13 Chris Denice 2017-01-20 22:00:11 CET
Some people don't use pulseaudio, so it is fine with audacious-plugins only as required. And provides a few other plugins as well.

Someone fix it already, I think David did it in version 3.8.1 right?

Note sure why Götz did not submit the fix he committed, but I just did.

Should be fixed in audacious-3.8.1-2.mga6
