Description of problem:
Every time I start KDE, plasma crashes and then, after closing the Bug Report Window, the whole screen goes black. I'm still able to launch programs by pressing ALT+F2 and writing the command line for each application, but never get to see my desktop nor the task bar, dock, or whatever staging area for the current apps running.

I'm running my box under init 3 (no KDM at boot time). I first log in to a
console session and then launch KDE using "startx". I do this as a precaution
due to my very BAD experiences with ATI's fglrx proprietary drivers (even under
Mandriva) on several different video cards. My current video card is a 1GB RAM Radeon HD 3850 AGP  --  yes, AGP! I needed to boost an old game station for my
visitors ;-)  

PLEASE NOTE: this exact behavior ALSO occurs when using Xorg's "ati" driver

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a console session
2. Execute startx


SOME BACKGROUND
---------------
Before having this issue, I wasn't even able to start a console session as the whole box would freeze at boot time (with the screen full of color noise). The latter issue was due to a firmware problem of Mageia with ATI cards. To solve it I had to update the firmware and rebuild the initrd image:

[theo@homelinux ~]$ bootloader-config --action rebuild-initrds

After the above instructions were carried out I was able to start a console session and launch KDE by using the startx command, but with the plasma-crash issue detailed at the beginning.

I tried running plasma thru the command line and still crashes -- duh! -- but I

I test on kde mageia 1 and i find the plasma crash need grafic  acceleration 
are you graphique card driver fonction correctly.

Since there are insufficient details provided in this report for us to investigate the issue further, and we have not received feedback to the information we have requested in comment 1 and comment 2, we will assume the problem was not reproducible, or has been fixed in one of the updates we have released for the reporter's distribution.

Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade to the latest update of their distribution, and if this issue turns out to still be reproducible in the latest update, please reopen this bug with additional information.
