Description AL13N 2011-02-26 18:12:09 CET
Description of problem:

have a laptop that is dual head

when installing, you are told you have dual heads and given 4 options:

1. configure both individually
2. use xinerama
3. configure head 1 (nvidia 9400GS)
4. configure head 2 (nvidia 9100G)

i have no idea which is the normal one and which is the external one. (not present)

default option 1 is selected.

but after install you have a black screen with a mouse cursor that disappears on the left side of the screen. no way to log in or anything.

maybe during installation we could check which head is actually connected?

or another solution? always clone mode during install? or an option clone mode?

the big thing is that after install you boot up and have a black screen

i did do another install on that laptop, but i forgot if it was present or not, this has been an issue on mdv for a long time... i'll have to check if i actually can do a reinstall on that laptop...

You chose the default mode 1, so :configure both heads individually....
what happened then?
Were you given the chance to configure one head and then the other? Please describe as detailed as possible

It would be very nice to know whether the issue is still there when installing Mga2a2

afaik, i only could configure one, but there was no notification or any kind of way to see which one it is...

didn't test yet, but i'm pretty sure mga2a2 still has this issue as afaik nothing has been changed regarding this in the XFdrake component.

You used the DVD to install?

Next time, when you install, please make a screenshot from the 4 options screen you described above, and from every next screen you get that has anything to do with configuring your graphic cards.

You can make a screenshot by pressing the F2 key. The first time you do that, you get a notification. From then on, when you press F2 a screenshot is made without notification.

* After installation, you can find the screenshots in /root/Drakx-screenshots/
Please attach them here.

* PLease attach /root/drakx/report.bug.gz too

Thanks :)

Since there are insufficient details provided in this report for us to investigate the issue further, and it wasn't reproduced since 11 months ago, we will close this report.

Please reopen when needed, and provide the information asked for above (AFAIK, that can only be done with drakx-installer, so it would be nice if you'd use the Mga2a3 DVD to test)

Closing as OLD.
