Description of problem:

If booting without an active Internet connection, and you left-click on the panel network icon to bring up the Network Center, and you start a wifi connection, the network panel icon disappears but is not replaced with the wifi icon. Wifi still works fine. If you subsequently disconnect and then re-connect, the wifi icon DOES appear. 

If the wifi is connected as part of the boot process, the icon DOES appear.

First noticed when testing the Mageia 5.1 KDE LiveCVD isos, but confirmed in an established Mageia 5 install. I believe it may be valid in Cauldron, as well, but I do not have a current Cauldron install available to check that out.

How reproducible:

Every time I boot without an Internet connection, regardless of hardware.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot without a valid wired or wifi Internet connection.
2. Establish a connection using the Network Center.

For cauldron, I know there are issues with the icon in Plasma5, but iinm that's a different problem.

Do you only have this problem in KDE4?

KDE4 is all I have at the moment, in both 32-bit and 64-bit. I've been devoting all my non-production hardware to testing the 5.1 isos. 

I was only speculating about Cauldron, and attempted to make that clear when I wrote it. I'll know more when the next round of M6 LiveDVDs show up for testing.

Wifi IS working when this happens, it's just that the panel icon doesn't show.

The latest 5.1 KDE4 LiveDVDs, dated November 18, no longer have this issue in Live mode, as the versions just previous did. However, if you install to a hard disk from the LiveDVDs, the resulting install still has the issue.

We regret if it never got fixed for Mageia 5

Mageia 5 has officially reached its End of Life on December 31st, 2017 https://blog.mageia.org/en/2017/11/07/mageia-5-eol-postponed/
It continued to get limited extended support since then, but that support has now ended, too.
As a result we are closing this bug report as OLD.

KDE4 doesn't exist in Mageia 6 or later and Plasma5 is entirely different. Please don't reopen this report for a similar issue with Plasma5
