libxml version 1.8.17 is available in mageia. However nothing seems to be using this package, everything is using libxml2.

So I think we should drop libxml, and rename libxml2 source package to libxml.

About libxml - nothing has a runtime dependency on it, but I don't know about buildrequires (the -devel package contains a static library).

About libxml2, check the website, http://www.xmlsoft.org/ - the software is called "libxml2", so renaming it is not an option IMO.

I could find:
$ urpmf --requires --media Core-SRPMS libxml-devel
ghostscript:libxml-devel
xemacs:libxml-devel

I've submitted rebuilds of both as neither of them really requires libxml-devel.

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

(we're not going to remove packages from a stable mageia release because they are obsolete so this bug is not valid for mga2 :)


Please remove libxml from cauldron (see description + comments 1 and 2):

source rpm: 
libxml-1.8.17-20.mga3.src.rpm

binary rpms:
lib(64)xml1-1.8.17-20.mga3.*.rpm
lib(64)xml1-devel-1.8.17-20.mga3.*.rpm

debug rpms:
libxml-debuginfo-1.8.17-20.mga3.*.rpm

and move its svn dir to obsolete

I've moved the directory to obsolete, and added it to task-obsolete. Only removing the packages from the mirrors is needed.
