messages logs from the issue
Same problem here. Looking at /var/log/syslog (see attachment) I suspected a firewall problem, and enabled port 161 (SNPM). After that, remote printers do configure automagically like a charm. Is SNMP really necessary to support remote printers? If yes, SNMP should be automatically enabled in firewall, or there should at least be a checkbox in the setup window for the firewall. CC:

the same with desactivated firewall. Even pressing cancel does not allow me to cancel the task, I must press "close" from the panel I mean, even if you make nothing after "add printer", the window will freeze with same syslogs: Feb 27 12:03:31 localhost kernel: lp: driver loaded but no devices found Feb 27 12:03:31 localhost kernel: ppdev: user-space parallel port driver Feb 27 12:03:31 localhost udev-configure-printer: add /module/lp Feb 27 12:03:31 localhost udev-configure-printer: Failed to get parent Feb 27 12:03:35 localhost kernel: lp: driver loaded but no devices found Feb 27 12:03:35 localhost udev-configure-printer: add /module/lp Feb 27 12:03:35 localhost udev-configure-printer: Failed to get parent shorewall, mandi and iptables are stopped. s-c-p 1.3 is available in the repos now, does the same issue happen after updating? NEEDINFO i'm waiting the updates, and I'll tell you asap My comments were made with system-config-printer-1.3.1-3.mga1 (also ...-udev and ...-libs) already installed - I just checked: rpm says that the packages were installed Friday 25 Created attachment 70 [details]
when locally usb connected
No problems to add a printer to the print-server on my NAS-box (inside my home network) Printer: Samsung ML-2010 "normal" installation without any changes to the settings. I got it with the function "New printer" and the "Selected Device" was network-printer --> windows-printer via samba Then the Printer was found with following installation o the needed driver for the printer CC:

s-c-p 2 .. then the apps is freezing
seeems to work now after installing task-scanning, but there is another issue concerning the access In fact, the issue is matter only when s-c-p is launched from the mcc (and still present) Grrr, now, i reinstalled the packages (with a --urge to remove them) and the issue is present in every time Yes, there is a reproducability problem - somehow, just insisting and trying several times, I had ended up with both printers correctly configured and working (the printer on the parallel port of a remote Mdv System and the network printer). I now did: - delete both printers using CUPS (browser on http://localhost:631) - use MCC to add new printers - that now always failed (I tried several times, including a re-boot) - I persistently have the printer-adding window of drakconf (resp. system-config-printer) immediately freeze. - before each new try, I made sure that there are no dead system-config-printer processes hanging around I tried another approach to get more information - Call system-config-printer from a (root) console - The initial window appears correctly - Hit Add - For a short while, the busy icon is animated (ca 1/2 second) - The busy icon then stops, the page freezes and a series of error messages appear in the console window (where system-config_printer had been launched) - see attachment Created attachment 75 [details]

output on console
Here I have the same Problem when I try to add a Printer. But there is onliy a local Printer (Epson Stylus D92) which is connected over USB. Configure CUPS with my browser works. On my console I get the same messages like Frank Griffin on Bug #403 (see attachment 133 [details]). When I click on KWin-killer-helper "terminate system-config-printer.py" there is still a process: # ps -ef |grep printer root 9794 7577 1 16:39 pts/3 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py --debug CC:
