KDE screenshot of wrong default
(In reply to Wim Coulier from comment #0) > Description of problem: After installation there is no sound in KDE for any > application. This can be easily solved by setting the Built-in Audio Analog > stereo as the preferred Device in the KDE Phonon Audio and video control > panel. Assinging to KDE maintainer, then. > By default after the installation Dummy output is the preferred > device, which leads to the problem. > > Setting the correct device as preferred will avoid a lot of user frustration. kde I saw a similar issue. The Phonon settings in my upgraded to Cauldron VM had two choices for audio output, I believe they were Default and Pulse. I have Pulseaudio disabled in this VM, so Default should have been the selection, but it was on Pulse. Because of this, Amarok would not play any sound until I changed the Phonon configuration. Previous Mageia versions have not had an issue like this. I wonder, does our mcc sound settings program that you can use to disable pulseaudio change Phonon settings? Maybe the place it needs to change it is different with Plasma 5. CC:

luigiwalser is it still valid with plasma 5.8.6 ? CC:

mageia Yes, this is still valid. Is this bug still valid? CC:

geiger.david68210 Default installation from Netinstall ISO. x86_64 Plasma 5.20.1 Three potential outputs: - Line Out (Analog Stereo) jack from Integrated Audio on Motherboard, connected to speakers. - Digital Output/SPDIF from Integrated Audio on Motherboard, but not connected. - HDMI Output from NVIDIA Graphic Card connected to an Acer Screen. These are correctly detected as dmesg report: oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input5 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=7 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input6 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=8 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input7 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=9 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input8 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=10 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input9 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=11 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card1/input10 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Front Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input11 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Rear Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input12 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Line as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input13 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Line Out Front as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input14 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Line Out Surround as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input15 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Line Out CLFE as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input16 oct. 29 09:49:20 mageia.local kernel: input: HDA Intel PCH Front Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.3/sound/card0/input17 Default sound output is set to Analog Audio Line Out, out-of-the-box, as it is detected to have speakers connected in it. Expected behaviour. Testing an other boot without speakers connected: Digital Output from motherboard is selected in Plasma as default sound output. Expected behaviour, while I will prefer it switches to HDMI/DP. But, Digital Output/SPDIF is set to be running in UEFI/BIOS and can't be detected to have an active connection. Connecting speakers via Line Out while system is running: Line Out selected. Expected behaviour. Closing this OLD. CC:
