On a physical machine upgraded from Mageia 5 to Cauldron here, after logging into Plasma, pulseaudio is running and sound works fine. Description of problem: after upgrade from Mga5 i586 (6DE in 1) to Mga6RC, playback of an .mp4 with VLC reports:"Audio output failed: The audio device "default" could not be used: Connection refused." closing VLC, starting Pulse Audio from terminal,then restarting playback now has audio Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia-6-RC-i586-DVD.iso DATE.txt: Fri Jul 15 20:00:00 CEST 2016 How reproducible: every time Steps to Reproduce: 1.update Mga5 i586 (6DE in 1) to latest. upgrade to Mga6RC. ( I used net-installer). reboot 2.login to plasma5, locate .mp4 and start playback with VLC. 3.there is no sound, (check controls are not muted) and popup displayed- see above 4. open terminal, enter : pulse audio 5. locate .mp4 and restart playback with VLC. adjust playback volume to suit
