High Possibly another bug i see now: xorg vesa have problems: after suspend the color mapping is broken, so i.e all text is hard to read as the soft edges of all characters mean they look like confetti... same for icons and images.

tmb ( Adding on Comment 6 : To avoid the wrong color mapping after suspend when using vesa as workaround, on this machine: set color depth to 15 bit, still using full 1400x1050 resolution. There is however another problem regardless: the windows top frame and decoration buttons (maximise, minimise, close...) is not drawn on i.e Firefox and Thunderbird (but is OK on i.e Dolphin and mcc ) )

Summary:
latest updates breaks ATI graphics =>
ATI graphics broke after an update first days in july More tests trying to use ati driver: Login manager GDM: about same there but when boot reach GDM the lines are slanted instead of vertical. Using XDM i can start icewm, but it have issues and is practically unusable for the user in case. Still valid including updates today, i.e kernel 4.7.0-desktop-0.rc7.4.mga6 I learned from tmb in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16980#c13 that cauldron do not have proprietary ati driver so it is the free driver we need to get working. Is there some log/test or anything we can do? My wife need this machine operable with full graphics color resolution (vesa cant do that) and if it is not fixed soon we need to switch back to mga5 or other system. Still valid after full updates. But i wonder if it may be that it just get the resolution wrong somehow. Looking at the garbled display i note that each horisontal pixel line is moved a half centimetre right from the one above (when using ati and GDM login manager). Is there some way to see what it thinks it use, and some way to enforce correct settings? If it could help investigations, i could plug in a spare drive and install mga5, 6dev1 or 6sta1 and get some working parameters out of it, if someone knows what to look for. The correct display resolution is 1400x1050 24bpp GPU is identified as AMD/ATI RV515/M54 [Mobility Radeon X1400] TODAY after many updates it is much BETTER :) Now it is only GDM login that is blurred - OK after i log in (in blind, to MATE, also in full resolution 1400x1050x24) Other DM: SDDM, LXDM, XDM are OK, and i can with any of them sucessfully log in to MATE, Gnome, Plasma. So now there is only GDM i know that is broken. I close this and make a new bug on GDM. BTW i note in Xorg.0.log that it early switches to software rendering, something to investigate maybe. Status:
