Description of problem: none of the options for installing grub (or LiLo) work. The install seems to run smoothly until bootloader install screen. I've tried all 5 options and none will install, with or without security password.

1.boot live dvd
2.install to disk

We miss logs...
Please retry the install up to that error then:
- plug a USB key
- go to tty2 (alt+ctrl+F2)
- run the "bug" command
- attach (not paste) the report.bug file you'll found on the USB key to this bug report.

But not that lilo & grub won't work with new ext4 & xfs formats.
This is why we offer grub2 by default

Hi Jeffrey,

The above was asked because this bug had the installer component. However, as you can see here
https://bugs.mageia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Mageia
that component is only used for traditonal installer bugs, that is, for non-Live installer problems.

Please start the iso in Live mode and then redo the install up to the error, as asked.

Then:

go to a konsole or terminal
type

      su

then type

     journalctl -a > journalctl.txt

and attach journalctl.txt to this bug report

Over two weeks later, no reply.

Closing as INVALID, because this reports lacks information we can't do without.

Actually I think this one is fixed by http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/drakx/commit/?id=2007ff340601ce140c91d25f344dd920267812d9 that was released in 17.48 the day after this report
