1) It need at least FreeCAD 0.16; Bug 20072 - FreeCAD need updating

2) Here is a list of add-ons: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-addons
I see assembly is listed there, so it means that when using FreeCAD 0.16
(or 0.17), it is easy for user to install it?
- If so, i suggest to close this bug.

I think for a real noob it is not so easy to install.
I continue to think a package is the easiest way to install.

In fact, I think, for a mechanical use, this addon is so important that it should be integrated directly inside FreeCad.

I have only just started trying FreeCAD and have not tried adding any add-ons yet so i can only say the instructions at that page seem not hard for someone into CAD.

but there are many add-ons...

If we are going to package one, wouldnt it be better to package the pluginloader, to make it easier to install many plugins? https://github.com/microelly2/freecad-pluginloader

Do you know if is easy to use with FreeCAD 0.16 ?

I install assembly2 addon without difficulties. It is effectively quite easy for me and I found that the documentation is clear. But for a noob, it is already too much. I'm sure you already have, at lease, some competences with a computer. A true noob don't have.

I work in a design department (using CAD software is my job) and I have some colleague who use CAD software every day, but for them, install an addon (or everything else) by hand is already too much.

And for me, don't have assembly tools by default is very strange.

But effectively you are wright : If you only package one, doing it for the pluginloader is probably a good idea. I tried to install it unsuccessfully on my FreeCAD 0.15 so I don't know if it is easy to install more addon with it.

@Marc, what is your experience with Mageia 7 packaged FreeCAD 18.2 regarding handling of plugins?
Comment 7 Marc Mascré 2020-02-01 14:16:43 CET
Hi

With mageia 7, in freecad, I found Tool>addon manager. There you can easily install assembly module.

For me this bug is resolved with this addon manager.

Thanks a lot.
