I should note that after I installed task-gnome on Cauldron, then I was able to start GNOME 3 / Wayland fine from the sddm option, although I later had to play some whack-a-mole with a dialogue prompting me to enter the password for the 'Default' keyring for apps that wanted them.

you have configured your mageia to use Wayland instead of Xorg ?

I don't recall doing that. How do I do that?

By default the possibility to start a Plasma Wayland session is included in SDDM. Not sure, if Mageia Cauldron is ready for that.
I can start a Plasma Wayland session in KaOS, but it seems that it is more a technical preview now and not ready for everyday use.
So maybe it is better just to disable that option in sddm for now?

Using Plasma 5.5.95 right now and Plasma Wayland still doesn't work; I've been experimenting a bit and documenting my failed attempts on a Forum thread

https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10460

Like Jüri said, if you don't think Plasma Wayland will be part of Mageia 6 (it should start, but it's still behind in functionality and stability compared to Gnome) it'd be better to disable the desktop session for this release (/usr/share/wayland-sessions/plasmawayland.desktop - plasma-workspace package)
