Description Dick Gevers 2016-02-13 12:22:06 CET
Description of problem:

Quite recently, meld has stopped highlighting diffs by colours.

Diffs are indicated only by arrows allowing the different lines between files left and right to be incorporated in the opposite file.

But the line(s) that are different are no longer coloured, nor are the margins showing colours to indicate where in the files the differences appear.

It would be good to have those back.

Perhaps this is due to the way meld and theme interact.

If you think it might be theme related, then it would be nice if you'd also tell which theme (and DE) you use ;-)

Oops I meant gtk related.

It happens in mate on my main machine as well as xfce4 on my laptop

command line output giving a blank text window

I noticed this problem with meld as well and stopped using it. I tried it today and meld doesn't show anything in the window anymore. It's just blank.

I'm on a fairly recent (1 month ago) Cauldron fresh install using cinnamon desktop. The GTK theme in gnome-tweak-tool had Adwaita selected, but changing it to Breeze made no difference. Command line output attached.

do you get the same output ?

I don't know why ovitters updated it to 3.15.1 when latest stable is 3.14.2

Well yes, in the sense of comment c#3 : blank text window... the content of the files being compared is not shown at all. So meld is currently useless

I have a bot to automatically update versions if "safe" and patches still apply. It updated meld from 3.15.0 -> 3.15.1 because both are 3.15.x versions. The bot would also update it 3.16.x; though no other change.

The bot didn't update from 3.14.2, it updated from 3.15.0.

From svn log:

| update to 3.15.0

BTW, this is likely due to GTK+ changes, need adjustment to theme changes.

do you have any clue ?
can you take care of this or give me some explanation ?

Matthias Clasen once blogged about the changes. Seems easier though to file a bug with meld.
Comment 12 Dick Gevers 2016-02-23 21:46:58 CET
Sorry but I do not feel quite competent to do so, since I have zero knowledge of GTK+ ... I hope someone else can?

Perhaps you can report the bug to Meld :
http://meldmerge.org/development.html
and give the link here after that.

Of course I could but if I do I am going to appear as though I am an idiot bevause I don't know how to report it. So please do it, I won't.
