Description of problem:

Unable to place Plasma desktop shortcuts anywhere desired.

How reproducible: Always


Steps to Reproduce:
clean 64 bit network install, non-free/tainted enabled, plus updates.
Desktop: Plasma Layout: Folder Theme: Oxygen    Window Decorations: plastik
Desktop effects are disabled.

1. systemsettings5->Appearance Workspace Theme->Look And Feel
   select Oxygen

2. systemsettings5->Appearance->Icons  select Advanced tab, set Size: 16

3. systemsettings5->Window Behavior click Moving tab, set no border/window/center  snap zone and uncheck Snap windows only when overlapping

4. Right click blank spot on desktop, Select Folder Settings->Icons
   move Size: slider all the way to the Left

5. Right click blank spot on desktop, select Create New Link->New Link to app
   name it xterm1, repeat for xterm2, xterm3, xterm4

6. now arrange them in two rows, xterm 1 and 2, second row with xterm 3 and 4
   as close as possible to each other.

This issue is new here since a few weeks.
Can you move your shortcuts as a seconds step? Hold it with a left click of the mouse and move it anywhere desired.

One cannot see what is the Plasma version and distribution in your upstream bug report.

Hehehe, I just now logged into my "kde" user account. 
Clicked dragged 9 desktop shortcuts to various areas on desktop to verify original problem exists.

Yep, I can move them to right side of desktop but not I still can not get the mga5 type placements.

Yeah, saw that bug report. I am not using activities, that I know of.

While filling out this comment, reading your c9, tried to move shortcuts and none of them move now.  :( 
Icons are unlocked.

Not going to bother opening another bug report about that, because I have abandoned Plasma5 for Xfce.  I now have that tweaked to work and perform as well as kde3 on mga3 or mga4 release.  :)

Upstream bug report was created a day or so later after this bug.
Version/programs are obsolete on kde site.

I modified Source RPM: field to reflect today's test.

Source RPM: plasma-workspace-5.5.4-1.mga6.src.rpm => plasma-workspace-5.8.5-7.mga6
