Description Martin Alduncin 2011-06-12 14:26:49 CEST
Description of problem:
I upgraded from Mandriva 2010.2 to mageia and now the Flash plugin does not work in Firefox (or other browsers). I tried it on Youtube and there is no way to play videos.

I use 64-bit version. Now I have installed the package nspluginwrapper and flash-player-plugin-10-3-181-14 (obtained from the Non-Free repository of 32 bits).

While attempting to play a Youtube video in Firefox the video goes black and no sound but does not leave any error messages. The video does not reproduce (no picture or sound) in the Chromium browser but indicates that the plugin is missing.

I tried to download the latest plugin from Adobe's website and install it, move the plugin from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins. The first tests I made before installing nspluginwrapper but none has worked.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
flash-player-plugin-10-3-181-14-1.mga-i586
nspluginwrapper-1.3.0-7.mga1-x86_64

I hope someone can help me.
Thanks.

I tried to install gnash-mozilla-plugin. There is a picture of the videos on Youtube, but no sound is heard. Error message appears at first related to an audio codec.

I tried also ligthspark-mozilla-plugin but when starting the videos displayed an error message and does not play the video.

gnash-firefox-plugin uses gstreamer, and a lot of youtube videoes are AAC encoded, so you may need to install gstreamer0.10-faad from the Tainted repository.

There's no official 64bit plugin of the Adobe flash player, only a "preview" which was deemed too-old-and-full-of-security-issues that it no skeleton packages was added for it in the official Mageia repositories.

I installed gstreamer0.10-faad and the sound is not heard.

With some video players previously I couldn't hear the sound of videos downloaded from youtube. After installing gstreamer0.10-faad I can listen.

Attached a file with the error message that comes out when playing a youtube video (having installed gnash-firefox-plugin and gstreamer0.10-faad).

FWIW, I think your best bet is either to use the 64bit flash (note that it has some unresolved security issues, since it was last updated in last November) I am not sure why it doesn't work on your box though; or using the 32bit flash player with a 32bit browser.

gnash has never worked for me...

I installed Mageia again and now the Flash plugin works correctly in Firefox.

I guess when I upgraded Mandriva something was wrong.

Magnus, Ahmad, thanks for replying to the message.
