I have a similar problem, with some more information. * I hav never had the problem on my eeePC901 or my MSI U270 (Intel ICHC7-M and AMD A50M southbridges respectively), though I use the disk extensively. * On the other hand, I have it rather predictably on two different computers with the AMD SB710 southbridge (both with a GA-MA785GMT-UD2H motherboard) under KDE, though it has worked on occasion. * On the same crashing computers, I can use the drive reliably if I remain in CLI mode. * I /think/ I also used the drive under KDE, once it had been mounted in non-graphical boot (maybe luck, maybe my faulty memory). => So it seems it's not just a flaky drive: some chipset/udev compatibility may also be involved (my best guess for udev, but something in the KDE device manager stack is involved). I can try and get more information if you tell me what you need: trying other desktops, booting KDE after mounting the disk, other chipsets... No logs for previous crashes, I'm afraid: they are usually stored in tmpfs (I did not expect kernel panics, and did not insist when crashes seemed regular). CC:

NEEDINFO I think you are a bit late to the party. I submitted this bug report almost 4 months ago. It was ignored until today. I switched to another distribution. I am running mandriva 2010.2 and fedora 15 on the computer that was reporting the oops. Neither have ever made an oops. The machine is in use 24x7. I still have the flaky hard drive, but I have little incentive to reinstall mageia. I can deal with a hard drive going offline, but I don't like kernel oops. Every other distro I tried would just take the hard drive offline. I submitted the bug report in good faith. I included the syslog messages, showing 3 separate times I got an oops. I wanted to help solve the problem. I can't use a distro with no support and no workarounds for a kernel oops. (In reply to comment #3) > I think you are a bit late to the party. > I submitted this bug report almost 4 months ago. > It was ignored until today. Yes sorry, the triage team has now resurrected. > I switched to another distribution. > I am running mandriva 2010.2 and fedora 15 on the computer that was reporting > the oops. Yes I can understand that. > > I submitted the bug report in good faith. I included the syslog messages, > showing 3 separate times I got an oops. I wanted to help solve the problem. Sure. (for your next bug report at gnome, kde or another distro it's better to attach the log and not just copy-paste :) ) > I can't use a distro with no support and no workarounds for a kernel oops. So good luck to you. Again, thanks and sorry for the big delay. (So I close this bug as old, feel free to reopen) Status:
