Mageia 4 64-bit, Nvidia driver
Real hardware, x86-64 system on ASRock A790GXH/128M motherboard, Athlon X2 7750 processor, 8GB RAM, on-board Radeon graphics. Installed with a bit of apprehension, as I've only had this system up and going for around two weeks. No problems apparent. (Whew!) Thunderbird, Firefox, vlc all work fine. Will attempt a test on an i586 system, same hardware, this evening. Also will attempt an update on the system with Intel graphics that had problems with the last kernel update. Question: The Intel machine still has the manually-altered xorg.conf file that allowed it to operate with kernel 4.1.8. For a proper test, should that file be left as it is, or restored to the original before the update? Bear in mind that restoring the file will also restore the problem seen with kernel 4.1.8. CC:

andrewsfarm i586 install on same hardware as Comment 7, only one possible issue. How to explain this... I commonly have multiple installs of Mageia on my systems, one primarily for production, the other for testing. In the past, a modification of Legacy grub's menu.lst, such as would happen in a kernel update, would result in that install's new grub menu coming up first, regardless of which install it was. Typically, if I altered menu.lst for the test install, I'd have to chain to boot the install I wanted first, and use MCC to alter and save a "new" menu.lst so the "active" menu.lst would be the one I wanted. This time, when I rebooted to try the updated kernel on the i586 testing install, grub booted the production install as the "active" one, just as if menu.lst had not been rewritten by the update. However, when I rebooted and this time chained to get the newly-updated kernel, the menu indicated that menu.lst for the test grub had indeed been changed. I hope the above makes sense. Entirely too wordy, but I don't know how to express what I'm seeing any other way. I have no idea if updating the kernel on the production install did the same thing, as that was already the default grub menu. x86-64 install on Dell Dimension E310 with P4 processor and Intel graphics: xorg.conf alteration needed for kernel 4.1.8 still active. All seems OK, except that the same behavior described in Comment 8 with Legacy Grub's menu.lst is seen. Neglected to mention in Comments 7 and 8 that the server kernel was the one being used. In Comment 9, it is the desktop kernel. i586 install on Dell Dimension E310 from Comment 9. Desktop kernel. Seems to work fine, except for showing the same behavior described in Comment 8. On the plus side, the "failure to find cpu0" messages from kernel 4.1.8 are now gone. Installed from testing:
- cpupower-4.1.12-1.mga5.x86_64

Thanks everybody. Validating this one now. Could you also test kernel-linus in bug 17066. You'll need the dkms-* packages for any of the *-kernel-4.1.12-desktop- packages you use. Keywords:

Advisory (also added to svn)
This kernel update is based on the upstream 4.1.12 longterm kernel and
fixes atleast the following security issue:
Moein Ghasemzadeh discovered that the USB WhiteHEAT serial driver contained
hardcoded attributes about the USB devices. An attacker could construct a
fake WhiteHEAT USB device that, when inserted, causes a denial of service
(system crash) (CVE-2015-5257).
It also fixes various upstream bugs, for more info see the referenced
changelogs.
Other fixes in this update:
* improve ath10k (QCA99X0, QCA988X, QCA6174) support (mga#16915)
* silence a harmless warning on 32bit non-dt hardware (mga#17010)
* fix regression with AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad of a Dell
Latitude D600 (mga#17034)
* kernel-firmware-nonfee:
- Add firmware for mwlwifi
- add firmware for QCA99X0 hw2.0, QCA988X hw2.0, QCA6174 hw2.1/3.0 (ath10k)
- brcmfmac: firmware refresh for BCM43602 PCIE devices
* iwlwifi-agn-ucode:
- Add firmware for Intel Bluetooth 7265 (D1)
- Update firmware for Intel Bluetooth 7265 (C0/D0)
- Update firmware for Intel Bluetooth 7260 (B3/B4/B5/B6)
