(none) Perfect explanation.:) Ok. Who is somebody? Do you know? one of the packagers (or apprentice) ? :) Setting version to cauldron to improve the chance that someone will package it. When it is in cauldron, it'll be in the next stable release after that, but it is also possible to reopen this request for Mga 1, then. CC:

marja11 I will try to package emerald but the case is a bit complex :/ There is no official release for version 0.9 of compiz (though it's still developped) and I'm not sure it even works. Status:

ASSIGNED Hi, with some difficulties, I managed to compile emerald and emerald-theme for cauldron. However, given they are not developed upstream anymore and I don't know C or C++ (nor any other prog language FWIW), I'm a bit reluctant to push them for mageia 2. Anyways, packages are available here for testing, they seems to work on latest cauldron but I can't guarantee anything : http://mjules.free.fr/rpm/cauldron/ Regarding mga1 situation, my initial plan was to backport compiz 0.8.8 and provide emerald at the same version. If someone is interested, I can provide them in a 3rd party repository. Fedora is clear about the future of Compiz: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=274944 CC:

isis2000 I've read the thread on Compiz, it's a shame it's not being maintained. My thought originally was that if you upgraded from Mandriva to Mageia 1 and had Compiz installed, Compiz worked without fault (as far as I could test). I'm not a software dev so don't know how much effort it would take to build Compiz for Mageia. However, if there is nobody maintaining it and it is difficult to build, then I would chalk that as a loss, you can't build packages for just one or two people, I would not expect anyone to build it just because I like using it. I'll leave the "bug" open if anyone wants to comment, but as stated above, if it's too much work, then don't make a Compiz version for Mageia. It seems there is a misunderstanding here. My comment (#10) only refered to emerald which seems dead upstream (no commit in 4 month). Compiz (core, plugins, config) itself is maintained upstream and in Mageia (I'm the packager for compiz). The problem is that until some days there wasn't a clear statement about where the development is. Today, the development is officially on launchpad[1] and I package snapshot from there. So don't worry, you will have a compiz stack (though without emerald) in mageia 2, probably 0.9.7. To conclude on emerald, my position ATM is that without development upstream, I can't guarantee the slightest level of quality and I don't want the burden of maintaining the package. Now, if anyone want to maintain it, I won't stop him/her. regards Julien [1] http://lists.compiz.org/pipermail/dev/2012-January/001537.html and https://launchpad.net/compiz-core Reset the status to NEW as I don't intent to work on it since emerald is dead upstream.
