Hi all! An update: apparently, one should run "cinnamon-session" instead of just "cinnamon" . See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cinnamon#Starting_Cinnamon_manually (Thanks to dalcde on #linuxmint-dev ). I personally find it counterintuitive and think there should also be a startcinnamon script. I'll provide a patch for that to the relevant package. Created attachment 7092 [details]
Patch to add "startcinnamon" to the cinnamon-session package.

PATCH IMHO this bug can be closed, as the cinnamon now starts. I noticed that the "nemo" package (which is anyway installed by task-cinnamon-minimal) should be installed, otherwise this error is also triggered at cinnamon startup. CC:

Description of problem: After I put cinnamon in ".xinitrc" and run startx , cinnamon gives this output and then terminates: « Window manager warning: Failed to load theme "Adwaita": Failed to find a valid file for theme Adwaita Window manager warning: Could not find theme Adwaita. Falling back to default theme.** Clutter:ERROR:x11/clutter-stage-x11.c:1290:clutter_x11_get_stage_window: assertion failed: (CLUTTER_IS_STAGE_X11 (impl)) » This also happens in a new UNIX account. Furthermore, starting Xfce (which works fine) and then typing in a terminal «cinnamon --replace» does not work either. I'm on Mageia x86-64 v6 Cauldron on this machine: « My primary machine is a desktop machine with a: An Intel Core i3 CPU (x86-64). 8 GB of RAM.
