The first two lines of the attachment above are the same when running the previous version, however they are the only lines that appear in that case.

Do you use any extensions ? if so, try to disable them all and see if anything changes.

if it then works, test one extension at a time to see which one breaks

a simple:

thunderbird --safe-mode

will start it up without extensions and themes

Thanks Thomas - It's really strange.
I started it in safe mode and there were no issues, so I removed all add-ons and re-started. Still OK
I then added back Lightning, re-started TB normally - still OK
I then added back Remove Duplicates, re-started TB - still OK
I then added back British English Dictionary, re-started TB - still OK
...and those are the only add-ons that I had.
I then shut down and re-started the machine for good measure and it's still OK, so removing and re-adding the add-ons seems to have fixed it. :\

Closing for now as invalid - at least it's now documented for anyone else who hits it ;)

I'd suspect you had an older Lightning extension, and when you reinstalled, you got the newest one.

a quick googling shows there seems to have been some issues with some of the versions even if they supposedly supported tb 38
Comment 7 Barry Jackson 2015-07-28 15:06:25 CEST
I only disabled the addons I didn't remove them, however looking deeper I notice that Lightning was indeed updated today.
