Description Bill Wilkinson 2011-06-06 14:48:30 CEST
I'd like access to linuxant hsf and dgc modem drivers for my system under Mageia. Attempting to compile through the source from linuxant (using the cnxtinstall script) has so far given errors (sorry, but I've done a reinstall since the last attempt to generate the drivers and do not have the actual error messages) and no working drivers. As my home doesn't have broadband access this is an important issue for me.

@ Bill,

Sorry for responding so late. We are very short on triagers.

I feel sad to hear that you needed this software so hard.

I hope you already got your modem to work. If not, you might want to try to get help compiling the linuxant drivers in the forums
https://forums.mageia.org/en/index.php

I'm afraid we are a bit short on packagers, too, so it might take a while before someone gets around to making this package.

Thanks for the update, Marja!

I've been using a dgc modem which works, and have been able to compile the hsf drivers after using a couple of source mods I've found on the net, but now my system is not finding the hsf modem to complete installation.

It's gotten to be less crucial, as I've finally gotten easytether to work, so I'm getting better throughput through my cell phone. It's probably a good idea for hardware support to keep this in process, however.

Thanks again for getting back to me!

Thanks for your reply, Bill, I'm glad you found a workaround :)

And of course I won't close this enhancement request.

set version to cauldron, because package requests will usually be done for cauldron first and then be available in next stable release

Version: 1 => Cauldron

cc'ing tmb and eandry

@ eandry
@ tmb

I wouldn't know which package name(s) to put in the RPM Package: field of this report. Does one of you have a suggestion?

Marja, from http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/dgc/install.php I'd say the RPM package should be dgcmodem .

Source RPM: (none) => dgcmodem

Oops, I looked over that. Thanks, Remco.

So the other one should be hsfmodem, but they go into one source rpm?

Source RPM: dgcmodem => dgcmodem, hsfmodem

Looking at the license seems it does not permit modifications and redistribution of modified source/binary products:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/downloads-license.php
To me it looks like we can't package this, as it requires modifications to work.

Any users who need those drivers very badly:

Please compile the linuxant driver you need from source and feel free to ask for help in the forum https://forums.mageia.org/en/index.php

You can also ask Linuxant to send a written permission to Mageia to package and adjust their drivers for Mageia. If Linuxant is willing, this report can be reopened. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that someone will have time to package it, then
