When using -vga std X fails with: [ 255.874] (II) LoadModule: "vesa" [ 255.945] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/vesa_drv.so [ 256.005] (II) Module vesa: vendor="X.Org Foundation" [ 256.013] compiled for 1.16.1, module version = 2.3.3 [ 256.013] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 256.013] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 18.0 [ 256.014] (II) v4l driver for Video4Linux [ 256.014] (II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa [ 256.014] (++) using VT number 1 [ 256.067] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for v4l [ 256.104] vesa: Ignoring device with a bound kernel driver [ 256.110] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa [ 256.118] (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section. With -vga cirrus, X can start and I could (very slowly) select the language/timezone/keyboard but then GNOME crashed with "Oh No. Something has gone wrong" after a few minutes of a waiting cursor.
