I've found the cause of this. I had a copy of the Mageia-4 installation DVD on a partition of the hard drive in my laptop, and when using UEFI boot, the M5 installer was finding and using that, rather than the installation media on the USB stick. Granted this is not likely to be a common occurrence (I only had it to work round bug 11679), but it would be good if the installer was a little more robust. well stage1 job is just to find & load stage2 but there's interdependencies between them as they must be for the same kernel, udev, ... enhancement Martin do you have access to the latest ISO builds? CC:

eeeemail Claire, no, I've been using beta3 and updating mdkinst.sqfs. Both my machines use UEFI boot, so it's easy to update. With the final release candidate from 27th May, if I select the Install from USB option, it still finds and attempts to install from the media it finds on the hard disk in preference to the media on the USB stick. Now, however, it can successfully start the old installer, so at least you get a clue what's gone wrong. If I select the Install from DVD option, it doesn't search the hard disk, so correctly uses the media on the USB stick (unless there is a DVD present - but I guess that's fair enough). Not a high priority, but it would be better if it started the search on the drive it booted from. Summary:
M5B3 UEFI install fails at start of stage 2 - FATAL ERROR IN INIT : Cannot rename module folder (b/c it found an older installer on disk) =>
M5 UEFI install from USB stick finds and uses media on hard disk in preference to media on USB stick @ Martin Is this bug still valid? Assignee:

mageiatools Yes, I've just reproduced it, using the M6 sta1 ISO. One way to mitigate this bug would be to remove the "Install from USB" option from the classic installer boot menu. I don't think this is needed any more - the change that allowed us to 'dd' the ISO onto the USB stick means that the "Install from DVD" option works just as well. The install from USB option was removed in Mageia 7, so this bug is now fixed. Resolution:
